Two weeks in Catalunya

19/11/2013

I'm just back from a great two weeks in Catalunya, Spain. For those who don't know it, this area boasts some of the best limestone sport climbing in the world.

Meeting up with Dave Evans and Martin Doyle of Plas Y Brenin, I jumped on a flight to Barcelona and was soon heading up the highway to the town of Tremp where we were based for our trip.

During the trip we climbed at numerous crags: Terradets, Collegats, Abella de la Conca, to name just a few. They were all exceptional.

There were lots of groups of Brit climbers that we knew who were in the same area, so climbing was often very sociable. At times I wondered if there was anyone left in Llanberis !

The weather stayed perfect until the last few days of the trip when the temperatures plummetted and we had to climb well wrapped up in the sun. The drop in temperature seemed to contribute towards a torn muscle in my shoulder, but it doesn't seem too bad, and a week or two of rest should have me back up to full speed before the winter indoor bouldering season starts !

Anyway, if you're a rock climber and you have not yet been to Catalunya - BOOK A FLIGHT NOW. It really is sensational.

Looking forward to the winter, my diary is filling rapidly. I'm starting the season on 14 Dec, and working through until late April. If you're keen to do anything in the mountains don't delay or I'll be booked already. See you in the mountains....
