Winter is well underway

07/01/2014

It's been a while since my last blog, so I thought I would just bring you up to date. After a fairly poor start to the season, with no snow in over 3 weeks, things are now back on track for another excellent winter.

The past week has seen some big dumps of fresh snow, and we've all been out making the most of it. Before the New Year Courmayeur was very much the place to be, and I had two outstanding powder days there. Since the new snow arrived last week I've been enjoying the slopes around Chamonix. Things are still a little scratchy low down due to warm temperatures, but high up the snow is great. Grand Montet seems to be in particularly good shape, with the Argentiere glacier providing excellent sport this morning.

Tomorrow I'll be heading to the Aiguille du Midi to check out the Vallee Blanche. Although the ridge isn't yet fully equipped, the snow-cover is very good, so small groups are being guided down already.

I'm quite busy at the moment, and bookings are good for the season. However I do have the odd day to fill, so if you're thinking about heading to Chamonix and loooking for a guide then don't hesitate to get in touch. Last minute bookings are usually unsuccessful, so please give as much notice as possible.

All the best, and I'll keep you informed as the season progresses....
